In this day and time we live in it is so easy to become distracted by so many things that we can lose our desire for God. Problems, cares, worries, lust for other things, etc. can distract us from the most important thing in life: our relationship with the Lord. Desire for God is the spark that can ignite into flame or, when untended, fizzle into ashes. As we grow in the Christian life, we understand the fires of passion must be fed.
A.W. Tozer wrote that the great people of the Bible and Christian history have had an insatiable hunger for God. He waits to be wanted. The great missionary Hudson Taylor wrote: “I saw Him and sought Him, and I had Him, and I wanted Him.”
David describes his passion for God: “one thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.” (Psalm 27:4) David is telling us that his heart’s passion is to know God and be in His Presence.
A.W. Tozer had a great deal to say on passion in his book, The Pursuit of God: “Why do some persons ‘find’ God in a way that others do not? Why does God manifest His Presence to some and let multitudes of others struggle along in the half-light of imperfect Christian experience? Of course, the will of God is the same for all. He has no favorites within His household. All He has done for any of His children He will do for all of His children. The difference lies not with God, but with us.”
Church, this is our time to shine and fulfill the plans and purposes of God for our generation, and we must not miss our opportunity. In order to complete all He has called us to do we must have a passion for Him. The spiritual barometer for our lives is “Do we hunger and thirst for Him?”
Living Word, now is the time to rekindle and fan into flame a passionate desire for the Lord and for His will to be done. There are souls to be saved, lives to be transformed and it’s our hour to demonstrate His love and power to this lost world.
I challenge you to ask the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh and anew with a passion for God and His presence. Remember He is not a respecter of persons and He is waiting to be wanted. How much of Him do you want? IT’S UP TO YOU!
