LIVING ALTERNATIVES Pregnancy Resource Center of Champaign, IL, was established in March of 1988, and is one of fourteen connected Centers located throughout Illinois and Indiana. The staff at Living Alternatives shares the Gospel with young ladies and women who find themselves in a state of crisis due to an unplanned pregnancy. They attempt to educate them on pregnancy, abortion and the alternatives to abortion, so they can make informed decisions concerning the outcome of their pregnancy. The workers also seek to restore the woman to a normal level of coping as they provide counsel to all parties involved.
Living Alternatives not only encourages their clients spiritually, but also offers tangible help by providing on-site pregnancy tests, maternity and infant clothing, baby supplies, assistance in obtaining housing for those who are homeless, help in the adoption process, assistance in obtaining medical care, continuing education, spiritual guidance, and ongoing encouragement and friendship. The PRC also ministers to those who have had abortions, sharing God’s love and helping them to understand that, through Jesus Christ, forgiveness and healing are available.
An “Earn While You Learn” mentoring program is available to clients where they attend classes on various parenting related topics at the Center and earn “Mommy Money” to shop in the PRC stores filled with baby furniture, play items, diapering supplies, formula, maternity clothing and baby clothing. Classes range anywhere from breastfeeding and the dangers of smoking to car seat safety.
Paid staff of the Champaign PRC are Greta Henry, Director, Carolyn Rasch, Assistant Director, both members of Living Word Fellowship, and Dale Coleman, Director of Volunteers. Other positions are filled by a long list of volunteers, which the PRC is always looking to increase.
The ministry is financially supported through churches and individual donations, all of which are tax deductible since the Center is recognized as a non-profit corporation by both the State of Illinois and Federal IRS. In addition to contributions, Living Alternatives does several projects each year which include an annual Walk-For-Life held in April, yearly calendars which picture some of the children saved by the PRC, auctions and other various fundraising endeavors.
The Champaign PRC is now housed in a new facility finished in October, 2007.
